It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of this wonderful man (October 2008) who brought joy through friendship and the sharing of his faith to many people through his music ministry. Through his words and spirit-filled music the Lord was able to touch many lives.

Wendell served as accompanist to the Billy Brooks Choir since its formation in 1993. He began studying piano at the conservatory of the University of Missouri at Kansas City at 7 years of age, then added organ studies at the age of 12. Wendell graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL in 1973, then taught 5th grade and music at Detroit Urban Lutheran School. He worked for the U.S. Customs Service as Chief of Policy, Compliance, and Training. Wendell has served as a church musician for several churches and continued to accompany students at Detroit Urban Lutheran for the annual Christmas programs and for graduations. He has been honored numerous times with awards for his dedication and service.

Most recently he played a prominent role in the Black Ministry Family Convocation held this year at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia from July 31st to August 3rd. He planned and directed the music for the convocation and served as as expert keyboardist throughout the convocation and also as choir director. All who participated felt their spirits lifted with the stirring gospel arrangements, as only Wendell could play them.

Even though he is now at the throne of our Lord we will miss him dearly here on this earth. He who was such a faithful servant of the Lord and a wonderful friend and family man, always ready with a gentle word or smile- he is an inspiring example for us all.
